Is It Normal To Still Have Swollen Upper Lip 3 Months After Lip Reduction Procedure?

had a lip reduction procedure done on 11/2/11 on both lips. I am a 27 old male.

I can see the change on the lower lip but i can't see the decrease in the upper lip. Although, i am still pretty swollen on the mustache area. I am almost 3 months into the proceduere and i am still swollen. Is this normal? The incisions were made inside the lip not on the wet/dry line.

Also I was wondering, will the swelling on the mustache area and lower lip area decreased with time?? Is it normal that the top lip is a little bit bigger than the bottom? Although both were reduced. Or will i did a touch up procedure??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Great question.
3 months is high time although few patients do take up to 6 months for the actual results.
IT is possible that the lymphatic channels are not working yet to reduce the edema post-reduction.
A trial of oral steroids like Deflazacort for a shot course in a reducing doses can really help.

The swelling will decrease with time.
Since you have undergone the procedure for both the lips there is no question about the relative sizes of both lips, it is now going to depend upon the results of surgery.
Touch-up procedure is needed only if the medicines fail to resolve the edema.

I find this answer helpful
