Is It Okay To To Bring Down The Intake Of Eptoin To 200mg?
i have been having Eptoin (400 mg) since Nov 2008 after an only episode of seizure. I was advised to reduce it to 300 mg in Nov 2010. Since I am supposed to taper of this medicine, I have started taking 200 mg since the last two days. Is this all right? I can then stop it completely by Nov 2011. Will that be OK?

Hello dear,
Antiepileptics in epilepsy of idiopathic nature are to be continued for atleast 2-3 years and if well controlled then can be tapered slowly.
The usual way is to decrease eptoin 50 mg every month to get it stopped in 4-6 months.
The rsik of seizure recurrences are more during this tapering period and one must have to be very cautious .
