Hello Dr. Grief, Is it possible to be tested negative for HIV antibodies exactly 22 days after possible exposure and still experience a rash? My rash occurred about 2 weeks (roughly 14 days) after my incident. It was localized; mostly on the top of my big toe on my left foot, about the size of a quarter. It was flat yet raised and reddened but really didn t itch much, and went away within a week. No small blisters or pustules were present and again just in that one spot (however, the top of my big toe on my right foot showed evidence of two much smaller and milder reddish/pink patches attempting to erupt but nowhere near developed as the one on my left foot). Otherwise I m perfectly healthy and have had no other symptoms typical of infection (such as fever and flu-like symptoms). It s going on 4 months have had no other symptoms typical of infection and due for a follow up test since it s only the window period. I would like to think that I were infected, the rash would ve been my body s reaction to the presence of HIV antibodies. However, if that were the case, then wouldn t there have been antibodies present in my blood sample? I still intend to keep my follow up appointment for peace of mind s sake, but just want to know ahead in advance as I go in for another test. Thanks in advance.
