hi, the other day I was told by my doctor that I have hsv type 1. I have been in a relationship with my partner for just over a year and he has also been diagnosed with the same infection. I m assuming he passed it on to me because he was complaining of a rash that he originally thought were ingrown hairs two days prior to me having symptoms in my genital area. Is it possible that he could have contracted the infection by using his sisters shaver to shave downstairs when she constantly gets coldsores?
Hi there.
Yes it is possible to have contracted it from fomites like razors but sexual or physical contact carries a much higher risk of transmission of Herpes virus especially through blood & bodily secretions.
It is also unhygenic & a touch strange for two people (especially siblings of the opposite sex) to use the same razor/shaver to shave the basement region.
To know for sure if it is indeed Herpes & if the infection is recent or old & the titres' of the virus, please do a blood test for Herpes1&2 IgG & IgM.
Cold Sores are the common terminology for herpes labialis & usually appear at times of stress ...physical or emotional varieties.
Please do practice safe sex & consider treatment with antivirals. I favour Acyclovir as an antiviral & perhaps a cream would serve you better applied 4-5 times daily to the affected region.
Good Luck.
