Hello,

If your partner is on penicillin for cold and does not have UTI infection, then it is not UTI that you are suffering from. If your partner has UTI infection then you may get infected if you do not take proper precautions. UTIs are not sexually transmitted infections (STIs). But sex increases the risk of transmission of bacteria from the skin to get inside the urinary tract (urethra and bladder) and cause an infection.

UTI can also occur from oral sex, not just penetrative sex. With oral sex, bacteria can still get introduced into the urethra, which can lead to an infection. You are suggested to get Urinalysis (R/E & C/S) done. If report is positive you will be treated with a course of antibiotics.

If you are having pain & burning sensation on urination then you can take acetaminophen, one stat when needed for relieve and drink adequate amount of water and fluids to reduce your discomfort. Washing genital area with warm water before sex reduces the risk of bacteria getting into the urethra, especially for women. You should urinate before sex to lower the risk of a UTI. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General Surgeon Dr. Anders Mark Christensen's  Response
Hi,

No, there is no reason to suspect that a UTI is transmitted by a person who is taking medicine. UTIs or STDs can however be transmitted sexually, so you should get your urine cultured and possibly be tested for STDs also.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
