Is It Safe For A Baby To Take Two Antibiotics At A Time For A 7-day Course Of Treatment?

Hi! My daughter was diagnose with amoeba and urine infection and she s only 7 months and weigh 7.8kg. Her pediatrician gave her metronidazole 3ml 3x a dayfor her amoeba and co-trimoxazole 3.5ml every 12 hours for her urine infection. Is it safe for a baby to take two antibiotics at a time for 7 days treatment? thanks

Hi,

No, it is not proper. Unless it is amoeba trophozoites in the stool routine - the kid does not require Metronidazole. Amoeba cysts in stool - does not warrant Metronidazole. It is not proper to start on antibiotics without urine culture.
