Is It Safe Taking Metoprolol Succinate During Breast Feeding?
Hi! I m a 38 year-old women and I m breastfeeding my 3 month old baby. I have just been diagnosed with high blood pressure and prescribed to take metoprolol er succinate, 25mg once a day. Everyone is telling me to stop breastfeeding. Should I stop ? and I m worried of the effects so far on my baby.
Hi, Metoprolol comes under Category C for safety during Pregnancy & Lactation. It means should be used with caution. In my practice, during lactational period, I usually switch my patients to other medicaitons, somewhat safer drugs, until there is a compelling indication to use metoprolol. Kindly discuss with your primary physician for needful. Regards
