Is It Safe To Apply Bio Oil And Stretch Along The Line Of Sutures?

Hi, I am now 12 weeks post op. I had a TAH and still have my ovaries. I had a vertical abdominal incision about 8 cm in length. I had a fibroid in my uterus. It has healed very nicely but it is still red and in spots it is puckering. I was told today by a physiotherapist that I can apply Bio oil and stretch it along the line. Is this ok, will it help ?
Thanks you

Hello,

Bio oil is not recommended for surgical wounds. You can apply topical antibiotics like mupirocin after cleaning with soap and water. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
