Is It Safe To Combine These Two Antibiotics?

I am taking Augmentin for a sinus infection currently. For the last few years, I have also taken macrobid as a preventative antibiotic to take every time I engage in sexual activity in order to prevent a UTI. Is it safe to combine these two antibiotics?

Hi & Welcome.

There's no evidence any harmful interaction between these two medications hence can be taken.

Macrobid (Nitrofurantoin) is a urinary antiseptic (antibacterial activity only in the urine) and is commonly prescribed for the treatment and prevention of uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections or recurrent urinary infections following repeated sexual activities.

It has no systemic antibacterial activity and also does not cause any harmful interactions if taken along with Augmentin (which is prescribed for a sinus infection). In view of the above you may continue the prescribed course of Augmentin along with Macrobid.

Hope this will help.
