Is It Safe To Fly After Bumping The Head?

I bumped my head about 30 hours ago and saw a doctor who does not feel it is a concussion (no symtpoms of a concussion). I also got a broken blood vessel (hematoma) in my hand which is sore, but is reducing in swelling. I am scheduled to fly from San Diego to San Jose tomorrow at 10am (1 hour 20 minute flight). Is it safe? My head hurts a little on the outside, and I am sore from my fall, but I do not have a headache or any other symptoms, other than the mild tenderness on the spot where I hit it. Thanks!

Hi Sir, thank You for contacting HCM

Well its unfortunate that you've got hit, and yes form your description it seems that your doctor was right as you've already spend 30hrs symptomless (the initial 24hrs in a case of any head injury is the most crucial phase and if a patient remained symptomless in that period , every Hour after that the risk of worsening usually get reduced).

I hope your already taking pain killers, if not just take Tab PARACETAMOL 650MG thrice Daily after some food for 2-3days and observe carefully for any signs like sudden onset headache/drowsiness/Nausea/vomiting/weakness etc. if at all happens then do visit your nearest ER at the earliest and also get a CT-scan of Head
done.

As for the hematoma over your hand just put some ice bag compression over there ,it'll get better.

Finally regarding your query for flying-- yes if you observe that those symptoms mentioned earlier didn't happen at all then your safe to fly but if it's otherwise then do check into your nearest ER at the earliest

Hope this'll help you and thanks again for contacting HCM , will see you soon again
