Is It Safe To Stop Metpure Intake For A Short Period?

Hello Doctor....my husband underwent triple CABG 4 months ago and he is doing fine except that he feels fatigue sometimes. Also, the recent Eco shows that his heart functioning (EF I suppose) is 50-55%. Is this normal. He was taking Metpure 25 Mg. However, the surgeon has suggested to stop that for 1 week and monitor his bp and heart rate, which is at normal now. Is it safe to stop taking Metpure.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Metpure is composed of 'Metoprolol', which is prescribed to patients to improve heart function and control blood flow through the vessels.

Your doctor must have suggested stopping the medication so as to know the response of his heart rate and blood pressure without medication.

You can stop the medication as suggested by your doctor and do the follow-up as advised. If needed, the medication can be re-instituted again.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
