Is It Safe To Take Aleve Along With Warfarin?

My question is. My husband had a knee replacement three weeks ago. Surgeon today told him to start taking Aleve. My husband has a history of blood clots. Takes warifin 3.5 daily. Today s INR was 2.9. Is it safe for him to take Aleve. Surgeon I m sure did not remember his medical history.

Aleve and other anti inflammatory pain medications ( for example ibuprofen, diclofenac) would be associated with an increased risk of bleeding when used with warfarin.

It would be best for him to avoid this combination of medications.

He should speak to his doctor about an alternative pain medication.
