Is It Safe To Take Zyrtec For Cough And Runny Nose?

My 13 month old daughter has has a runny/stuffy nose for the past 4 days. She is coughing a lot due to the drainage from her nose and is having a tough time sleeping. My pediatrician recommended liquid zyrtec but it doesnt seem to be helping and I feel helpless. I am running a cool mist humidifer at night is there anything else I should be doing?
