Hi,

According to the World Health Organization or WHO, anemia is defined as hemoglobin or Hb levels for women is less than 12 g/dL and for men is less than 13 g/dL. So, Hb levels is 8 or less than 8 g/dL is considered as anemia. If anemia is particularly severe or persistent in patient with sickle cell disease, then blood transfusion or iron transfusion therapy can be administered. But repeated blood transfusion may cause serious complications due to iron overload, so repeated blood transfusion should be avoided in sickle cell disease patients.

As your Hb levels is 8 or less than 8 g/dL, so you are an anemic patient and for that reason, you doctor has prescribed you to transfuse iron transfusion therapy. It should be remembered that a doctor is the best judge to select the best medication for you. So you should follow your doctor's treatment protocol strictly without any hesitation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
