Is It Safe To Take Nordette After Having An Unprotected Sex?
hi.. my partner and i had unprotected sex last saturday (it's monday now) although he was able to withdraw in time, would it still be okay if i take nordette now? and what if there will be intercourse again a few days from now, would it be okay if i take nordette again after?
Hi, Welcome to HCM. Your query is about emergency contraception.
Please remember that emergency contraception is meant to be used only in cases of unplanned accidental sexual episodes. It has to be used within 48-72 hours and works best within first 12 hours. So you may use it now but the chances or preventing pregnancy are less, though still better than the chances if you do not use anything.
Regarding repeated use within short time. It is not advocated as it contains high dose hormones and it is not a very good contraceptive method when used repeatedly. In such cases it is better to use monthly birth control pills, implants, depo shots, nuva rings or condoms.
Hope I was able to answer your query. thanks for choosing HCM. I would be happy to answer any more queries that you may have. Take care and have a good day. Dr Madhuri Bagde Consultant Ob Gy
