Is It Safe To Take Zanax While Taking Keppra For Meningioma Tumor?

My father is taking Keppra 500 mg 3 times a day. he just had a Meningioma tumor removed six weeks ago. I just discovered that he is also taking zanax 1.mg. he cuts the pill in half. I'm pretty sure he only takes it once a day before bed and maybe not even every day. I am sure his doctor does not know about it....stupid question, but is this harmful to him? If so, how?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Xanax is the trade name for a medication called alprazolam. It is in the family of medications called benzodiazepines.

If he is using a small dose and not daily, he may not experience any significant effects but this class of drugs is associated with developing dependence to the medication and tolerance (needing more and more medication for the same effect).

There are also other potential effects such as confusion, dizziness, drowsiness.

I hope this helps
