Is It Safe To Treat A Wound On The Hand By Soaking It In Warm Soapy Water?

My husband scraped his hand after a fall, three days ago. I cleaned it up and put Neosporin on it before bandaging it. I didn t put Neosporin on it last night because it looked pretty good, but today it looks a little worse. I remember my mother soaking a cut hand in warm, soapy water (doing the dishes!) Would this be a wise thing to do?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dear soap water cleaning if wound not good better to use hydrogen peroxide regularly to clean the wound.
You may apply Neosporine powder locally. If symptoms not improved you may start oral antibiotics for one week.
If Symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
