Is It Safe To Use Formula Containing Soybean Oil And Soy Lecithin For My Newborn Diagnosed With G6PD Deficiency?

Hi, my newborn infant has been diagnosed with G6PD deficiency. He is combo fed ( breast milk and formula). His formula contains 3.5% soybean oil and soy lecithin. Is it safe to use? Also, as a lactating mother, do I have to avoid all food and medicines that my g6pd baby is supposed to avoid?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Formula with soybean is usually not recommended in children with G6PD deficiency, just wondering why he was given that formula in place of regular formula. Does he have any allergy to regular formula?

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shehla Usman, Pediatrician
