Is It To Be Concerned About The Soreness And Bump On The Head Due To A Hit?
Hi, I'm 23, 5'10," and no history to report. I was punched in the head by a stranger three nights ago. They hit me just above my left ear, and hard. I had a little bump, but little bruising. It was sore, and I've experienced slight nausea, mild headaches and slight loss of appetite. I feel cognitively fine, and usually OK. Should I check into an emergency room?
Emergency Medicine Specialist, Dr. Tim Evans's Response
Hi. Symptoms to be worried about include loss of consciousness, amnesia (loss of memory), vomiting (not just nausea), double vision, collapse, persistent worsening headache that does not improve with simple pain relief (paracetamol/codeine/ibuprofen). If your symptoms are limited to what you describe and your injury was 3 days ago, then I would be reassured that things are likely to settle down with nothing to worry about. If your symptoms persist, however, get checked out by your doctor.
