Is Itching All Over The Body A Sign Of An Allergic Reaction To Antibiotics?
I have been experiencing a bad case of itching all over my body. At first T I thought it was my puppy but now I know it s not I was taking a couple of antibiotics and it started when I finished taking them. Now I am currently taking one of them again and am still itching bad again.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Antibiotics can cause allergic reaction and one of the forms of allergy is skin rash with itchiness. It is generally recommended to not continue the use of the antibiotic if you suspect you might be developing allergy to it. This is because sometimes you can develop severe allergy with difficulty breathing and this can be serious.
I would recommend you to talk with your doctor as soon as possible on the possibility of having the symptoms from and allergic reaction and if this is the case and you need antibiotics the doctor can give you an antibiotic of a different class and that may help with the infection you are having as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
