Is Lip Numbness After Intake Of Acetaminophen/Codeine, Clindamyon And Ibuprofen Considered Normal?

My wife has an abscesses tooth. She was prescribed acetaminophen/codeine, clindamyon and ibuprofen. She is telling me that her lips and surrounding areas feel numb, as if she was given novicaine. This isn't listed as a possible side effect for any of the medications. Is this normal?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per the symptoms if your wife has a tooth abscess then numb feeling of the lip and surrounding area can be due to pressure over the nerve caused by the pus accumulation in that area due to abscess formation and it can very much lead to numbing...

So my suggestion is to complete the course of antibiotics and painkillers and then get an x ray of the tooth done to proceed for further treatment..
In tooth related infections only medication cannot relieve the symptoms completely and tooth needs treatment..

If tooth can be saved then Root Canal Treatment can help.
If there is gross decay extraction is advisable..

Hope this information helps..

Regards.
