Is Loose Bowel Movements While Taking Ciprofloxacin And Flagyl Normal?
I started having loose bowel movements over a week ago, most were urgent. I have had diverticulitis in the past, I started Ciproflaxin and Flagler yesterday, I switched to liquids yesterday, started soft foods today, the diarrhea is now like sand, is that normal?
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Loose bowel movement/Diarrhea is not always normal and reveals a gastro-intestinal problem to investigate. It could be an infection by a bacterium or a parasite. The best to do is to get a stool exam/culture to identify the cause. These symptoms only respond well to Ciprofloxacin and flagyl if the organisms in cause are sensitive to these molecules. Also, with a past history of diverticulitis, recurrence at any time in your life is possible since the diverticula formed will always be there.I will advise you see the Doctor for evaluation and work-up since symptoms are persisting. In the mean time, you can take Oral rehydration salt, zinc tablet and bananas.
Advice: With a past history of diverticulitis, life style modification can help to prevent recurrence in future: Always drink enough water and add fiber to your diet. Hope my answer will help you Wish you a quick recovery
