Is Lump On Head, Sore Neck, Stuffy Nose And Ears After A Fall Serious?

Hello! I slipped on ice and hit the back of my head this morning. There is a lump, I have a headache and my neck is very sore. My nose and ears feel stuffy as well and they did not before I hit ny head. It has been about 10 hours since I hit my head. Do I need to be worried about anything? Thanks!

Hi, So sorry to hear about your fall. Let me see if i can put you at ease about the neck pain and headaches.

When falling down like you did, it's common for the muscles and tendons of the neck to get stretched beyond their normal capacity. That causes the tendons to swell and get irritated. The muscles that are connected to those tendons will go into spasm so that your neck stays stable. It's a defensive mechanism to protect the neck.

This generally subsides in a few days (as the tendons heal) and doesn't need any long term treatment. Over the counter pain killers will handle that kind of pain.

But if the pain DOESN'T subside, or gets worse. then you should head to your doctor for an examination and very probably some x-rays.

As far as the nose and ears and them being stuffy. That seems a bit coincidental to me. Are you sure you are not coming down with a cold or the flu? If these symptoms worsen, or if you have difficulty breathing or hearing, then you should head to the doctor as soon as you can.

All in all.. Do you NEED to be worried.. No i don't think so. But if the symptoms don't subside over the next few days... Then I think a bit of worry might be appropriate.

I hope this helps. let me know if there is anything else I can help you with on HealthCareMagic. Stay safe this winter.
