Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with spinal stenosis, complicated by arthritis in the joints. I recently tried MJ and was very surprised at how much relief I felt when I smoked it before bed. I would wake up with virtually no back pain and when I walk there is no sciatic pain down my legs. Do you recommend using medical MJ for patients like me?
No I dont recommend MJ for your symptoms. Canal stenosis leads to burning/numb sensation and pain in your back and leg.
For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started. Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help. Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief. I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level. Epidural steroid shot can help.
If there is no relief with all conservative measures then decompression with fusion or disc replacement can be done.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care
