Is My Persistent Thoracic Back Pain Due To My MI Or Spinal Stenosis Diagnosed 3 Years Earlier?
Good evening, constant back pain in the thoracic spine area. I am a heart patient with a spinal stenosis issue . I had previous MI in 2019 when the back pain started and been persistent since. My spinal stenosis was detected in 2016. Is the persistent back pain due to the MI or spinal defect? Appreciate your answer and hope it provides me clarity and relief
If your heart function is now stable, it’s unlikely that thoracic pain is due to heart complication. However, it cannot be ruled out that MI may have marked the beginning of your back pain. Spinal stenosis is more likely the cause of your symptoms. Spinal stenosis causes narrowing of the spinal canal. Your stenosis diagnosis was before your heart attack; it’s likely stenosis was already present.
The stress of the MI may have worsened symptoms. Get a cardiac stress test or echocardiogram done to rule out cardiac causes. Get clinically examined by a spine specialist (neurologist, neurosurgeon, or orthopedic spine doctor). For pain management get connected to a Physical therapist. Bracing and conservative treatment are helpful.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
