Is Nerve Pain In The Leg A Symptom Of Shingles?

I am having nerve pain in my right leg from my knee up to my waist. It s hypersensitive to touch and has been hurting for days. I have had chicken pox and get a cold sore occasionally. I was wondering if I might be getting the shingles. I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow. I was thinking of getting a shingles vaccine. Since I already carry the virus, would the vaccine do any good?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Vaccines have no role in your case as you already had chickenpox. Shingles is unlikely as shingle is almost always associated with skin vesicles and the location is also uncommon. More possible cause is sciatica. As of now you can take Analylike Gabapentin for pain. Consult a physician and get evaluated. You have to do a nerve conduction study also.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shinas Hussain
