Is Numbness In The Fingers And Toes During Cold Weather A Serious Concern?

I noticed that when it s very cold a finger or sometime my toe gets very white (and I am Filipino) like the blood doesn t flow on them, and if it does that I could feel it like it gets a little bit numb, so I try to soak them in warm water and the color comes back. Is that a sign of serious sickness?

Hi,

You may be suffering from Reynaud's phenomenon or frostbite.

It is abnormal hypersensitivity to cold that the finger vascular became contracted. Contractions lead to spasms and ischemia and later finger colour changes from blue to white to pink.

It may recover if you warm your fingers. You may need to avoid cold exposure. Use calcium channel blockers or vasodilator is useful.

If symptoms do not improve, please consult your physician, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
