Is Osteoarthritis Curable Weight Loss And Exercises ?
I have just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the hip (mild to moderate, per xray/doc). Walking with cane. Pain most days - only when I walk, sit, stand.....:-( I am doing pt and on a wt loss regime (down 5# so far)...is it realistic to think that weight loss and exercise will do enough to quell the constant pain and immobility issues or is a hip replacement an inevitability? Me: 53 female 245#
Yes weight reduction and exercises will help. Joint replacement option will depend on progration of disease. Till time take analgesic and cartilage protecting medication like glucosamine sulphate. For hip arthritis joint flexion, extension and rotation exercises will help. Physiotherapist will help you better to learn more exercises in proper protocol. If required intra-articular injection can be given.
