Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My periods is delayed for the past one and a half mths and ..pregnant test is negative.Dr said to take regestrone tablets.so will I get pregnant while taking these tablets..can I do sex without precautions while I am taking these tablets .can I be sure that I won t get pregnant while I am taking these tablets.and within how much days will I have periods
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Regestrone is a progesteron related tablet (female hormone) that maybe your doctor has recommended to regulate your periods and have more regular ones. This is generally taken for 10 days in a month for 3 months. Another method that can be used is combined oral contraception pills for 3 months. They all should simulate your menstruation and might help your periods get regular. It does not increase your fertility while you get it but you still can get pregnant even when you are in it so please talk to your doctor for more safe methods against pregnancy if you do not want to have pregnancy at the moment. Using condoms regularly might be a way to prevent pregnancy or using oral combined pills (they need coverage with condoms when you start them)
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
