Is Prolonged Use Of Concerta Advisable?

Hi, I have a question regarding the drug Concerta. My son is 13 years old and has been taking Concerta since the age of 8, with good results and no pronounced side effects. He tried Ritalin right before, however he developed tics, which immediately stopped when taken off Ritalin. My question & concern is with prolonged use & increase of dose (54 mg) currently, should I look into other, safer ways to treat his ADHD? He was diagnosed at age 2 with PDD/NOS, autistic like symptoms, and then @ age 7 ADHD was added. With so many opinions out in the media today, I find it difficult & confusing on what is the best path/strategy for helping my child. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you, Julie
