Is Recurring Chest Pain With Slightly Elevated BP A Cause For Concern?

My friends mother is 96 years old with no high blood pressure history. She complained of sharp chest pains. I asked her if she has had any prior to her telling me. She answered off and on this morning. I suggested to my friend to call 911. My friend however said its probably just gas. I checked her blood pressure. 128/66 using a new digital push buton type. I didn t have to look at my watch. My friend thinks that s fine. I disagree but I m not a pro to make that judgment. What do you think?

Hello,
Thank you for asking your question at health care magic.
I understand and appreciate your concern

The patient's age along with complaints of off and on chest pain definitely need medical attention. Coronary artery disease is a major concern and need to be checked for.Several other conditions can also be cause of chest pain , but coronary artery disease need to be ruled out first.

I suggest that she need to be taken to the emergency room/call 911.
Meanwhile if available give the patient two 75 mg aspirin tablets .
Blood pressure of 128/66 is not too high, but cardiac conditions can present with low/high and normal blood pressure. Moreover continuous/frequent monitoring of blood pressure is the key, rather than a single reading.

Hope I was able to answer your question
Please feel free to address any more concerns
Regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
