Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Sever Shock Like Pain In Fingers Due To Arthritis?
My husband has been experiencing severe pain like electric shocks in his fingers and shooting up his arm. He has been doing some manual work using tools. He does have arthritis in some of his joints. If in your opinion these pains are related, should he stop, or will the exercise help them?
I have studied your case. Due to compression of cervical nerve root there can be weakness in your fingers. Also there can be large disc bulge which can be compressing over spinal cord.
For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication like pregabalin can be started consulting your doctor.
Till time, avoid lifting weights. You can consult physiotherapist for help. Physiotherapy like Tens and interferential therapy may give you relief for few days.
If nerve compression becomes symptomatically severe then surgical decompression will give permanent relief. I will advise you MRI cervical spine and EMG-NCV [nerve conduction study].
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
