Hi, thank you. I m 49 female, peri-menopausal. I started taking maca root a few months ago. It has helped my night sweats, anxiety and my period to start in 30 days instead of 18 days. My periods have been tending to go on for more than a week. This one was normal for 6 days, but I ve been spotting fresh blood since. It s been almost two weeks total of mensus. Is this typically from high or low progesterone and/or estrogen? Thank you, Dion
As your age is 49 it is likely that you are having perimenopausal bleeding where the mensuration is often erratic. This problem usually ends 12-18 months after the last menstrual period. However there is a rare risk of development of cancer cervix. Hence to be in the safer side i suggest that you should have a check up with a gynaecologist who will recommend transvaginal sonography for measuring endometrial thickness and to get information on some pelvic diseases such as fibroid and ovarian cysts. If no serious abnormalities are observed in the sonography then your abnormal bleeding can be treated with certain medicines.
