Is Stabbing Stomach Pain And Bloating With White Count 9 A Symptom Of Gastroenteritis?

ct scan shows gastroenteritis...stabbing stomach pain below the sternum and bloating but not any pain really below belly button. no nausea, no vomiting, no diarrhea. does it make sense that it is viral "stomach flu" like they told me? elevated white count, 9 bands.

Hi,

If it is the viral infection then it may not affects the blood picture in smear or count, neither the given symtoms are suggestive of viral infection but it seems to be hyperacidity that might caused the gastritits, it is also said to be dyspepsia, beside the viral infection it could be protozoa infection.

The condition can be managed with proper treatment of PPI and anti-protozoa like Tab Omeprazole 40 mg once in day and Tab Metronidazole 400 mg twice in day for five days.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain Shaikh
