Is Surgery The Only Option For Abnormal Bone Effusion And Bone Marrow Contusion?
i would like to know what the foolowing paragraph mean and if surgery is going to be my only option as a 19 year old female? abnormal joint effusion; bone marrow contusion pattern suggesting transient lateral patellar dislocation; lateral femoral condyle and retinaculum at the patellar insertion suggesting at least partial tear; additionally there is an area of focal high type 2 signal in the femoral origin of the medial patellofemoral ligament also likely repersenting at least partial tear.
Patellofemoral partial tear ligaments have been treated in a conservative manner until recently, that publications have leaned towards surgical treatment for better outcomes. Surgery is not a must, but if you're willing to look for a more definitive solution, then you must discuss it with your orthopedic surgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Gonzalo Escobar, Orthopedic Surgeon
