Is Swelling In The Ankle A Symptom Of A Fracture Or Sprain?

yesterday i jumped off the last step and landed on an uneven surface. my ankle was inverted and on my way down i heard 3 loud quick cracking sounds. I had severe pain and decreased ROM. I did RICE and the pain went down significantly. its now the next day and my ankle is really swollen and slighlty bruised. but i can still walk on my ankle and the pain is practically gone. except for when i move my ankle a certain way. i dont know if i should spend the time and money to get an xray or just wait it out? could it be sprained or fractured with little pain with weight bearing???

The swelling can happen both due to fracture or sprain. You need to have an MRI scan for proper diagnosis.
