Is Swollen Eye A Side Effect Of Neomycin Or Acyclovir?

I have been diagnosed with opthamalic shingles. Cultures came back positive. I was prescribed acyclovir from PCP and neomycin(maxitrol) drops for my eye from an opthamalogist. The swelling in my eye is insane, to the point it won t open. I called my doctor immediately and she said it was from the shingles not the neomycin. My question is how can I be prescribed something for shingles that warns to not use if you have shingles? Am I wrong in thinking the extreme swelling is from the eyedrops? Thank you

Hi,

The eye Sweing is due to your primary disease shingles and not the drugs Neomycin or Acyclovir. Continue the drugs, as the disease intensity decreases, it will go.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajeet Singh,
