Is Taking Aricept Safe While On Tegretol And Lamictal?
yes my brother, whom I have power of attorney at this point. He lives independently and has recently been assigned a new neurologist due to a doctor retirement. my brother has been on tegratol and lamictile for approx 20 plus years. He has starting having significant memory issues but seems to be able to live indepenently??? this week the neurologist perscribed aricept 5mg, perscript followed by 10 mg perscript. Is this a real concern regarding the seizure medications and use of aricept. His most recent tests have included, blood work, EEG, MRI, Cancer screen, Neropsyche test 3 hours) then this new script for aricept. I apologize for medical misspellings YYYY@YYYY

Combining Tegretol with Aricept is not recommended unless absolutely necessary. Tegretol may reduce the effectiveness of Aricept and the combination may increase the drowsiness that Tegretol usually causes.
When necessary escalating the dosage should be done with great care. Starting with the low dose (5 mg) sounds more appropriate than starting with higher dosages and perhaps remaining at the low dosage may be preferable.
Regarding the seizures, there is no risk for them by this drug combination.
