Is Taking Betnesol Injection During Pregnancy For Lung Development In Baby Safe?

Hi, I am 32 weeks pregnant now and I am advised by my doctor to take betnesol injection. She says as I am on insulin from 30 weeks, my baby s lungs might not have developed fully, so betnesol injection need to be taken. I want to know is it safe to take this injection at this stage? What might be the side effects and is it really needed for my baby s lungs to develop?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
Betnesol injections are known to help a premature baby to develop surfactant of the lung. So if your doctor feels that you will deliver before 36 weeks of pregnancy, it would help your baby. However it will be at the risk of your diabetes going out of control and you developing high blood pressure.
I shall be happy to answer more queries.
Take care
