Is Taking Thyronorm Throughout Pregnancy Safe?

I am 5 moths pregnant now. During my first blood test in the first month of pregnancy, it revealed I had this thyroid problem which is slightly above the normal. My gynaecologist advised me to take Thyronorm 25 mcg tablets throughout pregnancy until delivery. Is it safe to do so? Or should i go for a blood test again to see the level of thyroid problem at this point of time and change my medication accordingly?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Pregnant patients with hypothyroidism of any degree should always be treated with thyroxine.
Thyronorm(Thyroid, Desiccated ) is safe in pregnancy-Category A drug.
United States FDA Pharmaceutical Pregnancy Categories-Pregnancy Category A-
Adequate and well-controlled human studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there is no evidence of risk in later trimesters).
