Is The Gluteus Medius Tear Significant In An Tendinopathy Suffering Person?

I am 68 year old female and have been told after MRI that I have a gluteus medius tear. My hip doctor dismissed it saying most folks after 60 would show a tear on an MRI. I have severe gluteal tendinopathy and trochanteric bursitis for which I am being treated. Is the tear significant or not?
