Is The Cut From Appendix Surgery, Scabbed Over With A Pus, A Concern?

Hi my 6 year old daughter had her appendix removed in the beginning of May. Her belly button had a cut from the surgery and then a scab was built. She said it itched I told her not to but she ended up doing it and now she has liquid coming out. It looks like puss, is this normal? Is it infected?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The inflected scab has some specific symptoms.

Redness and swelling around the scab increase 48 hours after your injury.

Scab feels hot or painful.

Pus is oozing from the wound.

In this case I suggest to clean the res with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with an antibiotic cream and a clean bandage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
