Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is the drug Lialda (used to control UC) considered a steroid? My 24 yo daughter has been on it for 2 years and is really struggling with acne. After seeing a dermatologist and taking exceptional care of her skin (and never having acne before) we are linking it, perhaps, to her medication. Any guidance would be appreciated!
Detailed answer: Thank you for asking on HealthcareMagic.com, providing better healthcare for you. I have gone through your case and I can understand your concern. Lialda (mesalamine) is an anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to class of 5-aminosalicylates. For her acnes I would prescribe Tetracycline 500 mg twice daily for 3 to 6 weeks. As condition improves, begin tapering medication to 250 mg twice daily for 6 weeks, then to daily or to every other day. She should wash affected areas with mild soap (Purpose, Cetaphil) twice a day. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions. Wishing you good health. Please don't forget to give your valuable feedback and five star rating, to help me assist you in a better way. Click at 'I Find This Answer Helpful too'.
