Is The Increased Dosage Of Atorvastatin The Reason For Weakness?
I am a 68 yr old female. I have had diabetes type 2 for over 30 years. I also have high blood pressure, some kidney failure and have had open heart surgery plus bypasses. Needless to say I am on several medications. Recently my PCP upped my dosage of atorvastatin, 80mg, per day. I think this may be causing extreme weakness. I have trouble walking and even stirring a recipe of cookies. I am so frustrated that I feel I can't do what I used to. My PCP seems to always want to blame my symptoms, whatever they are, on my diabetes! Thank you for your help, Linda
Hello dear user! Thank you for your question on HCM!
Yes weakness is the most common side effect of atorvastatin. It is a drug that interacts with other drugs you take and may give side effects, increase or decrease the effects of each other.
It may give muscular damages leading to muscle cramps, pain, stiffness, swelling, or weakness. It may affect the renal function too.
So if your symptoms persist for a long time I suggest you to consult your doctor who has prescribed you the medication and change the dose or the drug replacing with another.
I hope you will get better soon and I wish you a good health! Best regards! DR ERIOL.
