Is There A Chance Of Contacting HIV Through Saliva Or Cut In The Mouth?

After 24 hours of kissing my boyfriend (whom I don t know his HIV status), I had dental work done to my gums. Am I in any type of risk? ie. if hypothetically the virus got in my mouth thru his saliva or a cut in his mouth, would it stay in my mouth till the next day, and get me infected while having the debtal procedure?

Hello,

You kissed your boyfriend twenty-four hours before dental work, and the main concern is about HIV infection. Saliva in itself has properties to kill such pathogens responsible for HIV infection and other infection. In your case according to history, no chance of any HIV infection through kissing after twenty-four hours, whether there was cut or no cut. So don't worry, you are safe.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Het Ram Bishnoi
