Is There An OTC Medication That Can Help In The Treatment Of Flatulence?

Experiencing abnormal passing of gas with an odor of rotten eggs. I had a test about 7 to 8 years ago for a similar disorder to determine if my stomach contained excess bacteria that produced excess or less hydrogen (I forgot if this was the element). It was determined that I had a bad bacteria problem and antibiotics were prescribed and that knocked the problem out. I was fine until about 2 weeks ago when I ate a large ice cream cone and this issued flared up again. I understood from my last test that bad bacteria love sugars and I'm wondered if that ice cream indulgence has kicked this issue off again in my system and I need to rid myself of the issue with antibiotics again - I rarely eat any sugary items. Anything over the counter I might try?? No abdominal pain or bloating - just this noxious gas.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

* As per my surgical experience, the issue is an intestine infection

* Primary guidelines to cure it at earliest

- drink more liquids
- prefer bland, vegan diet with organic fresh fruits, fresh curd for gut flora built up.
- OTC basis PPI as omeprazole and antacid syrup as Mylanta helps
- Ayurvedic herbs of tulsi and pepper do a great job indigestion
- Need prescription of GI specific antibiotic as metronidazole or Rifaximin with your doc for speed up bacteria control.
- do regular exercises for best results.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
