Is There Any Need To Take Shingle Vaccine After Getting Infected Several Times? Will Vaccine Trigger Another Outbreak?

I am 61, and have had shingles 4 times...'71, '04, 06, and the worst episode in 2007. While my immune system has never been strong, I don't have an immune disorder per se. Given this, I'm wondering if there is any value to my taking the shingles vaccine. I'm also concerned that the vaccine itself could conceivably trigger another shingles outbreak.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The vaccine should not trigger an acute episode of shingles. This is not a reported side effect.

It is indicated for use in persons with a previous history of shingles like yourself. It should reduce the occurrence of future episodes and also reduce the risk of developing post herpetic neuragia.

This is a painful condition that occurs as a result of shingles.

I hope this helps
