Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is There Any Possibility Of Heart Attack With Abnormal EKG?
I took my 14yr old son to the er yest with chest pain. the er dr told me that his ekg showed nonspecific st and t wave abnormality. It was repeated 2 hrs later with same result. He was discharged with papers for me to call a pediatric cardiologist today. I was told his ekg shows he could have possibly had a heart attack sometime in the past, but since chest xray is fine now, and no blood work was done, just follow up with cardiologist. Does this sound right?
it is unlikely he has had a heart attack in the past particularly without any symptoms.
the findings on the EKG may represent nothing serious at all, sometimes the auto reporting function on the EKG machine over calls changes in the trace in children.
it is however important to have it looked at by the cardiologist to ensure he was not born with a difference in the electrical conduction in he heart.
