Is There Any Side Effects For Coumadin?

I have been on Coumadin since 1996. Recently I have had bouts with an ich. No special area of the body but makes welts when scratched. I saw where this is one of the side effects of coumadin and I wondered if there is something I could do. We have tried everything including changing washing powder. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Your symptoms are probably caused by an allergic reaction to something. Since you've been using coumadin for so long without any problems it's very unlikely that - after so many years - coumadin started to cause an allergic reaction. I can't exclude it but it's very unlikely.

Your doctor should try to identify other potential causes first before attributing everything to coumadin. If coumadin does get the blame then it can be substituted with other drugs like apixaban for example.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis,
