Is There Any Side Effects For Mixing Birth Control Pills And Emergency Pills?

Hey! My girlfriend is on birth control but 2 nights ago she missed her pill and we had unprotected sex. She took her missed pill the next morning as well as her pill for that day later on in the day, but we are still concerned and considering Plan B or a similar emergency contraceptive just in case. Will there be any side effects from mixing this with her regular birth control?

Hi,
I understand your query.
Contraceptive pills are hormonal preparations taken through out cycle to avoid ovulation & prevent conception. Emergency Contraceptive pill has high dose of hormone which disturbs regular hormonal pattern of menstrual cycle , resulting in postponing of ovulation.. thus avoiding conception after an un protecxted sex.
Your friend has combined both the pills .. due to fear of conception after missing her regular contraceptive dose... this will cause sudden rise in hormones after emergency pill... resulting in hormonal imbalance..
It will avoid pregnancy..This will cause disturbance in her regular cycle.
She should
-discontinue her regular pack & discard it.
- wait for bleeding to occur,
-Start with new pack of her regular contraceptive from 5th day of the bleeding/ consult gynecologist in case of excessive bleeding, any other menstrual problem.
- Use barrier contraceptive ( condom ) till she starts her regular contraception.
Thanks.
